On the 11th of March 1944 a noxious smoke escapes from the chimney of a mansion on Lesueur street, Paris. The neighbors are concerned by the overpowering smell and call the police. The mysterious owner Professor Petiot, of the mansion is away so the firemen break a window to enter the house. In the cellar they find human remains next to a boiler running at full capacity. It turns out the Petiot has been promising to help people flee France but instead he has been killing and burning them.
