Criminal Investigations: The Double Murder at the Shooting Range

Two men were murdered in cold blood in front of a shooting range on a military base. One of the victims was a naval officer, a lieutenant colonel, François Picard. A few meters away from him, the second victim lay face down on the ground: Creton Pol, a civilian who worked at the Brest Aquarium. Both men were killed with three bullets from a 22 calibre rifle. Curiously, the two men did not know each other.

So what is the link between the two murders? Each man has been shot with two bullets in the chest and once in the head – a methodical approach that suggests military training or professional killers. François Picard worked on a strategic site for national defense and was responsible for measuring radioactivity in the Brest harbour. Did he discover a particularly high rate? Did he threaten to reveal defense secrets?
