From Feminists to Femen

Over the last 50 years there have many strides forward in women’s rights around the world. Yet recently the trend seems to be reversing in some unlikely places, for instance abortion has been legal in the United States since 1973 and yet today several elected senators are openly trying to restrict the right or talking about repealing the law.

In Tunisia the situation also seems to be going backwards. The Arab Spring ended up opening the door to the Muslim Brotherhood who are now working hard to dismantle woman’s freedoms that have been in place since 1956. After several high profile cases Indian women have finally become able to start fighting back against the pervasive rape culture they have suffered under for years.

This film investigates around the world the worrying trend for devolution in women’s rights and the new feminist movements such as the notorious Femen, that are springing up to combat it.
