On 15 April 2019, people all over the world watched in shock as a fire destroyed the Notre Dame Cathedral. President Macron quickly vowed to rebuild a “more beautiful” Notre Dame in five years. Within a week, over a billion euros had been pledged for the cathedral’s restoration.
In the aftermath of the fire, CFRT obtained permission to film the interior of the cathedral, and unlimited access to the reconstruction. For two months, we filmed the clearing and the consolidation work, the work of removing the gargoyles, stained glass and collection of exhibits. We attended the meetings on the construction site and won the trust of the teams.
In this documentary, filmed in 4K, we follow the Cathedral’s reconstruction, and the key personel charged with the responsibility of delivering President Macron’s promise.
