For the Tizianos the family business is gondoliers, and it is a lucrative one at that. Countess Enrica on the other hand opens the gates and the kitchens of her palace to a few privileged wealthy tourists who want to see what happens behind those mysterious walls. And they aren’t the only ones profiting from the swarms of tourists here in historic Venice.
From hawkers to pickpockets and all the other scammers inbetween, everyone wants a piece of the action and the Venetian police have their work cut out for them. They make the most of surveillance cameras, patrols and fines, to enforce the law; mobilizing large resources on land but also on the water.
Not everyone welcomes the tourists here; unruly visitors are destroying the monuments and many Venetians feel pushed out of their city which seems to have been turned into one giant amusement park. Some are taking action such as blocking the docks to try to reclaim their city.
