The Third Reich in Private: Episode 4 – With Hitler to his Downfall

They lived in seclusion from their subjects, guarded around the clock by the security service. For a long time, little was known about the private lives of the Nazi leaders. It was only after the fall of the Third Reich that more and more details came to light: film footage and photos showing the everyday lives of Adolf Hitler, Eva Braun and Hermann Göring.

Hitler’s health goes downhill, he is increasingly ill and listless. More and more frequently, he underwent questionable treatments from his personal physician Morell, who administered stimulating drug cocktails. Hermann Göring is barely sane due to his morphine addiction. While the Reichsmarschall loses influence, Joseph Goebbels enjoys his new role as ‘home front dictator’, organising the ‘total war’. When the situation became hopeless, Hitler and his court retreated to the Führerbunker in Berlin and staged his inglorious end.
