Gates of Europe: Episode 3 – Border Power

Filmed over three years, with access to the controversial European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex, this series investigates how Europe guards its borders. Across four episodes, the series follows the agency’s new director, border guards, politicians, activists and survivors. Can Europe protect its borders while safeguarding human rights at the same time?

Europe is reinforcing its external borders with fences, drones, cameras and ever more border guards. Frontex is changing too: from a supporting agency into a European border guard force with a corps of 30,000 officers. We follow new recruits during their training. Are they being prepared to monitor, protect or stop people on the move? As Frontex grows, pressure on aid workers is increasing.
