In a ravaged Palestine, power is fragmented among three opposing forces: a weakened Hamas in Gaza, the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and a “technocratic committee” appointed by Donald Trump, which is meant to oversee post-war governance, security, and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip. Stuck at the gates of the enclave and contested by all, this new player reveals a global battle to decide who will govern the Palestinians.
The restructuring of Palestinian power is underway, facing the challenge of reconstruction and operating under heavy oversight. Weakened by the war, Hamas nevertheless retains administrative control over the devastated Gaza Strip, while the Palestinian Authority – confined to limited functions in the West Bank – sees its legitimacy eroded. Between the two, a US-backed technocratic committee is presented as the instrument of future governance. But it is struggling to assert itself in the face of political and military realities. This committee is one of the components of the “Board of Peace” that Trump unveiled with great fanfare in February in Washington. All 15 members were personally chosen by Donald Trump without the involvement of either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority. But even that hasn’t prevented the committee from running up against the geopolitical reality on the ground: Israel is not allowing it to enter Gaza and its members are stranded in Egypt.
How can schools and health clinics be reopened, water distributed and food aid managed in a devastated territory and under such uncertain circumstances? Filming on the ground in Gaza, we monitor the implementation of this experiment, its geopolitical consequences, and its impact on the daily lives of Palestinians.
