Criminal Investigations: The Raven

In a small, sleepy village in northern France, a young woman disappeared while taking her dog for a walk. At 7:15pm, her husband, John Szablewski called the police in a panic. 36-year-old Laurence Maille had not returned home. Their dog is found wandering alone 7km from the couple’s home. What happened? Is this a case of a runaway, abduction or murder? Laurence Maille’s colleagues tell investigators that the young woman had hurriedly left work the day before, due to severe stomach pain.

When questioned, her husband confirms that the following day, his wife had stayed home to rest. In the afternoon, he said that he went to get medicine for his wife, but that when he returned around 6pm, she was gone. There is no reason for John to lie; he and his wife seemed to be a happy and loving couple. John Szablewski is willing to do anything to find his missing wife.

But the publicly tearful husband quickly becomes the prime suspect when the police discover that he has been selling his wife’s precious jewellery. In the interrogation room, John Szablewski admits that he buried his wife’s body in a wood nearby. The case appears to be closed until investigators receive an anonymous letter sent by a mysterious raven- a letter that will accuse the former husband of Laurence Maille as the killer…
