Dicing with Death: Brazil – Dust and Fire

In this acclaimed series, we journey on some of the world’s most dangerous routes and explore the lengths people go to in order to change their destinies.

Far from the Amazon Rainforest and the skyscrapers of Rio, the Northeast Region and the state of Tocantins are radically different from the rest of Brazil… Together, they make up an area three times the size of France. They are both divided into numerous regions, each with its own geography.

The Northeast is one of Brazil’s poorest regions and if this was not enough, drought has set in. It’s been nearly 8 years since it last rained. And so drivers are sent to distribute water, a vital resource, to prevent entire villages from being abandoned. In this episode we will follow Armando and his private bus travel through this immense nation in poor travelling conditions.

With this land facing threats of bush fires and famine, drivers like Armando play a critical role in the survival of the people in this desolate region.
