Europe’s Narco Threat: Corroding a Continent

According to a recent report from Europol, the nature of organised crime in Europe is fundamentally changing, making it more entrenched and destabilising than ever before.

In Marseille, the victims and perpetrators of gang violence are getting younger and younger. In Belgium, the Minister of Justice had to spend a week in a secure residence due to an imminent risk of kidnapping by the cartels. Meanwhile the Dutch Crown Princess lived in Spain for at least a year because of threats from criminal groups. For years, the threat posed by organised crime linked to drug tra!cking in Europe was not taken seriously enough. This report, filmed in Catalonia, Belgium and France, investigates the changing face of organised crime in Europe.
