Both Ukraine and Russia have downplayed the number of soldiers killed and wounded in their ongoing conflict, when in fact the casualties are comparable to those of World War I. Since Russia invaded Ukraine at the start of 2022, the war’s casualties have been a closely guarded secret. However, Ukrainian soldiers are beginning to speak out about what is happening at a stalled front.
We hear from soldiers, paramedics, and veterans who have survived the war with lifelong injuries. We also follow the officers responsible for personally delivering death notifications to the families of fallen soldiers and witness how a group of volunteers risk their lives under constant bombardment to recover the bodies of both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers.
Are we at a point of no return, where the profound human cost and the monumental sacrifice being made on the front lines are destroying soldiers’ morale and ultimately informing the outcome of this war?
