Tunisia: The Excesses of a Dictator

It’s years since the Tunisian revolution felled the Ben Ali regime and the country is fighting to breath life into it’s economy. The former dictator and his family fled the country leaving behind all the trappings of their opulent lifestyle and piles of cash. Our cameras were able to gain exclusive access to the abandoned palace with 332 rooms filled with works of art that belong in museums, a private beach and helipad, and bedframes made of silver it it is an incredible treasure trove. But unfortunately selling off these stolen goods is a tough task.

This investigation meets the people trying to put Tunisia back together, tracks Ben Ali’s family around the world and finds out whether life there has really changed.
