Criminal Investigations: Death Trap

Rita Hug discovered her husband Martin Staub, a wealthy businessman, lying in a pool of blood. His skull had been smashed before being strangled. The police find no forensic evidence at the scene. The victim’s wife claims to have visited a friend in the afternoon before going home and discovering the body.

The police have no reason to doubt her testimony, particularly as the two were well known to be a very happy couple. At the house, the police find no sign of break in and nothing had been stolen. The police have no significant leads but by questioning the couple’s staff, they learn that Rita Hug had a lover. Was it a crime of passion? Rita’s lover is taken in for questioning, but he has an alibi. The investigation appears to be at a standstill when the autopsy reveals that the murder took place around noon. An important piece of information comes to light that does not match Rita Hug’s version of that fateful day…
