Monaco is the second smallest state in the world after the Vatican, with a population just below 40,000 people. The four seasons are marked by traditional, ceremonial and celebratory events. The two most famous of these are the Monaco Grand Prix and the prestigious Red Cross Charity Gala. But there are other lesser-known ceremonies and celebrations, such as the Catholic feast of Sainte-Dévote, or the Christmas celebrations at the Prince’s Palace, and the traditional Monegasques’ picnic.
Prince Albert, the ruler of the Principality, and his wife, Princess Charlene, take a keen personal interest in these celebrations which punctuate the lives of their people. We follow Prince Albert and Princess Charlene over the year as they attend and supervise these major events. It is a glimpse behind the scenes of the pageantry and history of this tiny but prosperous corner of Europe.
