In May 1923, Guillaume Seznec left his sawmill in Morlaix and headed to Rennes where he was supposed to meet Pierre Quéméneur, an elected member of the departmental council of Finistère in Britanny. The two of men set off for Paris together to handle some business. En route, their car suffered a number of mechanical issues. Quéméneur decided to take the train to the capital, never to be seen again.
