Winter 2024 Update: Latest festival round-up for a year of amazing success!

Posted: December 20

After a successful year filled with impressive festival selections and awards, we’ve continued to build on that this winter, with even more recognition for our documentaries. Here are some of the highlights:

Nenets vs Gas won the “Hérisson d’or” Award at the Festival du Cinéma Nature & Environnement de Grenoble and is nominated for the Magritte du Cinéma in Belgium

In the Arctic’s Yamal Peninsula, the world’s largest gas exploitation zone, industrial expansion by corporations like Novatek, TOTAL, and the Chinese National Petroleum Corp threatens the Nenets, indigenous herders who have lived there for over 200 generations. Gas fields, towns, railways, and nuclear-powered icebreakers are reshaping the landscape, while climate change accelerates permafrost melt, disrupting traditional ecosystems.

Despite Yamal’s immense wealth, up to 70% of its indigenous population lives in poverty. The Nenets, unable to oppose Moscow, adapt their migration routes to coexist with the industry. Yet, their way of life faces growing risks as centuries-old traditions clash with industrialization and global warming. This film offers a rare insight into this struggle, showcasing stunning aerial footage and intimate stories of resilience from a culture on the brink of disappearance in the face of relentless modernization.

Tax Wars was selected for both the Films for Future Festival (Switzerland) and Festival du Cinéma d’Attac (Belgium). It also won the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary at UNAFF United Nations Association Film Festival 2024 (USA) and appeared at Fraud Film Festival (Netherlands) where Your Face is Ours was also featured.

The Click Trap secured spots at the RIFF Awards (Italy), This Human World (Austria), and will also be appearing in January and February of 2025 at ReFrame Film Festival (Canada).

Automated advertising dominates the web, using algorithms to match products with potential customers, a system controlled by a few big tech and social media giants, reinforcing their monopoly over a multi-billion-dollar industry. The Click Trap exposes how this same digital ad economy fuels scams, misinformation, and online extremism, enriching questionable and even criminal content creators. Through expert insights, it examines the societal impacts of digital advertising and raises urgent questions about the need for safer, more ethical practices. Is it time to regulate online advertising?

This winter, our environmental films have garnered significant acclaim, resonating with audiences who recognise the urgency of their subject matter. Green Warriors: The Toxic Legacy of Warfare received the Investigative Journalism Award at the Lorenzo Natali Prize 2024. Meanwhile, Generation Greta appeared at the FrontFoc – Aosta International Film Festival, and Bangladesh: Sunken Country was selected for the prestigious British Columbia Environmental Film Festival in Canada.

Offering a powerful glimpse into the resilience of a nation under siege, Afghanistan: The Last Resistance, was featured at the Ghan International Film Festival in Australia. Meanwhile, International Adoptions: A Global Scandal stirred vital conversations on child rights and ethics at the Global Human Rights Defence Film Festival in The Hague, Netherlands whose theme this year was ‘Children’s Rights’. In Germany, The Forgotten Nuclear Victims was selected at the Globale Mittelhessen Documentary Film Festival, while Handmade: A Tale of Stop Motion charmed viewers at Estonia’s Black Nights Film Festival

Additionally, Hezbollah Inc was honored at Les Etoiles de la SCAM in France and Primed in Marseille, France.

Continued festival successes from our Autumn Update:

Venezuela: Country of Lost Children won Best Documentary Film at the 12th Solidarity Human Rights Film Festival in Israel. War on Women: The New Battle for Abortion in the USA earned the Best Feature Documentary Award at the Paris Film Awards 2024

Furthermore, Duty of Care – The Climate Trials featured at Green Stories (India) and the Calgary Justice Film Festival (Canada), while Your Face is Ours appeared at the Fraud Film Festival (Netherlands) & will also be showing at New Zealand International Fraud Film Festival in March 2025.

We are incredibly proud of these achievements and look forward to seeing our work continue to make an impact on global audiences!
